Train the Trainer
Clients throughout Massachusetts and across the country effectively address their needs for medical interpreters with the help of our train-the-trainer program, delivered in conjunction with the national Area Health Education Center network. After a core group of qualified and experienced interpreters receives the training they can serve as in-house trainers for other staff members and volunteers. These trainers’ ability to train additional future interpreters becomes an essential resource for their organizations.
Our staff provides on-site training to enable these trainers to teach our 60-hour Fundamentals of Medical Interpreting course.
Our train-the-trainer curriculum provides these already-skilled interpreters with the knowledge and tools to be able to competently assess, motivate, teach, and evaluate future medical interpreter students.
Discussion during our full-day session includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Guidelines and objectives for the session
- Principles of adult learning
- Role of the trainer
- Different learning styles
- Techniques for responding to needs of different types of learners
- Experiential learning cycle
- Open- and closed-ended questions
- Constructive feedback
- Student assignments
